Teaching

I am an Assistant Professor of political science SUNY Cortland. I teach Introduction to American Government courses as well as upper-level courses on political parties, voting, and campaigns, as well as election administration systems in American Politics. I have experience teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses.

Because of my past professional experiences in political arenas, I enjoy bringing an applied and experiential approach to my pedagogy whenever possible.

I have developed an interactive exercise for in-person and smaller online Introduction to American Government courses called “Democracy Labs.” These “labs” engage students in small group work throughout the semester that allows them to apply the concepts they are learning in the course to real-world policy environments. If chemistry courses can have labs, why not political science courses? These Democracy Labs were written about by a colleague (Emily Farris at Texas Christian University) and are published on the Cengage website. Click below to find out more.
